Interaction between electronic units
Code: U0111 - The car’s system can’t communicate with Battery Energy Control Module "A", which manages battery energy use.

U0111 means that the vehicle's control unit (ECU) cannot receive data from the battery management module. In simpler terms, the car "doesn't understand" what's happening with the battery, which can cause issues with starting, charging, or even the operation of electronics.

This error code is most commonly seen on Citroen, Peugeot, Nissan, Toyota, Lexus, Honda, BMW, Ford, and some electric vehicles (such as Tesla, Nissan Leaf). It is especially relevant for hybrids and vehicles with an intelligent battery management system.

Contents

Causes of U0111 Error:

  • Wiring issue - bends, breaks, or oxidation of contacts between blocks.
  • Battery management system (BMS) failure - the module may simply freeze.
  • Discharged or faulty battery - if the battery is dead, the system may stop "communicating" with it.
  • CAN bus issue - this error indicates a loss of connection, meaning there could be a general failure in data transmission between modules.

How to Fix U0111 Error?

  • Restart the system. Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, then reconnect it. Sometimes this helps reset the error.
  • Check the battery. If it's old or discharged - replace it or recharge it.
  • Inspect the wiring and connectors. Clean and secure any oxidized or loose contacts.
  • Use an OBD2 scanner to check for errors in the CAN system. If there are other codes related to the data bus, the issue may be deeper.
  • If nothing helps - diagnostic at an electrician's. A failure of the BMS module may be possible.

DTC U0111 indicates that the car has lost connection to the battery management system. Start by checking the battery and restarting the system, and if that doesn't work, check the wiring and BMS module.
