P1614

Vehicle engine and/or automatic transmission
Code: P1614 - There is a problem with the IFI (Integrated Fuel Injection) control module, fuel metering actuator, or fuel rack position sensor, affecting fuel system performance.

If your Mercedes-Benz won’t start or is acting up, and you pull a P1614 error code from the scanner, you’ve got a fuel system issue on your hands. This code is linked to the IFI control module, the fuel metering actuator, or the fuel rack position sensor. In simple terms, your engine isn’t getting the right amount of fuel, which can cause starting problems, rough running, or even a complete shutdown.

This is a common issue in diesel Mercedes models like the E-Class (W211, W212), C-Class (W203, W204), and Sprinter vans, where fuel injection is tightly controlled by electronics. When something in that system fails, the engine can struggle or refuse to run properly.

What Causes the P1614 Code?

There are a few possible reasons behind this error:

  • Faulty IFI control module - the system isn’t managing fuel delivery correctly.
  • Bad fuel metering actuator - fuel flow may be erratic or stop completely.
  • Defective fuel rack position sensor - incorrect readings mess up fuel injection timing.
  • Wiring issues - corroded, damaged, or loose wires can cause signal problems.
  • Weak battery - low voltage can mess with the electronic fuel system.

Symptoms of the C1614 Code

If you’re driving a C200 CDI, E220 CDI, or Sprinter 313 CDI, and this code pops up, watch out for these signs:

  • The engine cranks but won’t start.
  • Power loss and sluggish acceleration.
  • Higher-than-normal fuel consumption.
  • Rough idling or stalling.
  • The Check Engine light is on.

How Serious Is It?

This is not a minor issue-if fuel delivery is off, your engine could stall while driving, which is dangerous. Ignoring it can also lead to bigger, more expensive repairs later.
